Salem Valley Quilters
The Salem Valley Quilters have been sewing up a storm for the past thirty years. Located now at Old St. Andrew’s Church in Colborne, they are a continuation of a group of quilters that originated in Salem, and through the years, these ladies have quilted steadily to meet the needs of the community.
In the last ten years, the group has made over 1,000 items, all of which have been donated to a variety of projects and organizations. For example: North Bay Hospital children’s ward, Community Care Meals on Wheels, Bridge Hospice, Quilts of Valour (for veterans), Covers for Comfort (for adult cancer patients), womens’ shelters, and a fundraiser to furnish desks and seating for a classroom in Kenya. Most recently, the group has been asked to make 450 Christmas gift bags for local charities. Proceeds from any sales made during the Apple Route Studio Tour will be used to cover costs of future charitable projects.
